National
Network of Community Disaster Management Committee (N-CDMC), Nepal
Organizational
Overview
Background
National Network of Community Disaster
Management Committee (N-CDMC) is a community led loose network organized
to establish the right of disaster affected people and to build the risk
resilient community through awareness, capacity building and policy advocacy
ensuring participation in both government and private agency's planning and implementation. People from highly vulnerable and/or affected
communities to different natural hazards are organizing themselves in
Committees that work together to reduce the risk in their communities.
To increase the impact of their life saving activities
and advocacy, these committees started to organize themselves at district and
national level and formed the National Network of Disaster Affected Community (NNDAC) network
in 2008 and with broadening its objective now it is named as National Network of Community Disaster
Management Committee (N-CDMC). Currently
the network has been extended to 22 districts in Nepal and is expanding to other
districts every year. Both at National and
District level, its representatives are elected from the grass root level, the
Community Disaster Management Committees (CDMC).
As a young organization, NCDMC is now convening its members from the districts and
communities to discuss the appropriate structure, division of roles, rules, and
regulations, which will allow NCDMC to
effectively represent Nepal’s people in their endeavor to create a Risk Free Nepal.
